About Eric Lakich
Eric Lakich is the founder of Ziptax (zip.tax), the sales tax rate API he started as a side project in 2011 and grew into a public platform used by ecommerce and B2B SaaS companies for address-level rate lookup. TaxCloud acquired Ziptax in July 2025, and Eric now works as senior principal engineer & developer relations, connecting the technical realities of tax rate data with the developers and platforms that build on it.
Before TaxCloud, Eric spent close to nine years at VideoAmp, most recently as vice president of engineering for data science and machine learning, and before that as vice president of engineering for infrastructure, where he scaled the company's cloud and data platforms. Earlier, he was director of systems engineering and a production engineer at Amobee, and a production engineer at Gradient X (acquired by Amobee in 2013). Across these roles, he has more than 20 years of experience in engineering, infrastructure, and production leadership.
Eric holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering technology and industrial technology from Purdue University.
